Course Description

A key aim of CruinnTeo courses is to enhance students’ understanding and knowledge of the fundamental building blocks of the Irish language. Daily classes afford students the opportunity to both reinforce and enrich their language skills – listening, reading, spoken interaction and writing. Students will be encouraged to develop and share their views on a range of topics. With a view to further develop the lessons of the day, pupils on the Cruinnteo course will be advised to complete short homework assignments throughout the duration of the course.

The course focuses on two main elements of the Leaving Certificate Irish Examination, namely the Oral Irish Examination and the Creative Writing section or ‘The Aiste’. The ‘Creative Writing’ section aims to develop vocabulary, accuracy and exactness of language. An emphasis on the teaching of grammar rules aims to enhance students’ understanding of how to write a grammatically correct essay. This knowledge will also give students greater confidence when undertaking Paper 2.

On completion, students’ improved skills and increased confidence will help them construct their own answers and not be overly reliant on rote learning.  A comprehensive, detailed course handbook (author: GRAINNE KELEGHAN) will be provided to all students.
